Our Normal Weekly Meeting


Thursday, 2 April 2026 Breakfast meeting Apologies- Gerry, Elaine, Andrew B, Dave C, Sue P, Sue V, Maureen. Guests- Jude Robertson, Neil Robertson, Sarah. Grace provided by Andrew M followed by another good breakfast. Gardening at the W&T Hospital- A good Saturday morning was had tidying and dead heading, thoroughly enjoyed coffee and Pastéis de Nata as a reward. - Kathy attended the League of Friends meeting and thanks were given to the Club for their work.- Another session will be put in the events folder for further gardening that needs doing. Living with a stammer - Jude Robertson Jude gave a very informative and interactive talk on his experience of stammer. He has written a book with his mother that is available on Amazon. Jude would like to get a book in every school to raise awareness of the experience of living with a stammer. David M proposed we purchase 3 copies for each of our Walk for Water schools to add to their book gifts. Jude has received support through a charity, Stamma - stamma.org, his speakers fee he has asked to be donated to the charity. More details on the work of the charity can be found at the web address or a helpline 0808 802 0002. Many questions were asked and members own experiences were discussed. On behalf of the club Kathy thanked Jude and gave him an Easter egg which he duly tucked into  AOB- Quiz night on Saturday 11/04, tickets still available and raffle prizes needed. 1 - Spyros’s sweet peas sold out!- Our District grant application for the Oyster Trust to facilitate training a midwife was successful and £1000 is on its way. - Congratulations were given to Anne who has been given 2 awards for her many years of work in the British Legion  Greetings from other clubs- Anne sat with 12 men at the awards ceremony - Canterbury Rotary, who sent greetings.- Spyros equipment collection driver brought greetings from Saffron Waldron. NB Spyros has already started another collection.- Pete brought greetings from Canterbury Sunrise. Raffle - won by Spyros. Master at Arms - Another Bertie Bassett session with Godfrey.- Fines included: having staff, not being fried enough, dangly things, curly hairstyles, parking within the white lines, memory hiccups, phone ringing, talking after the bell - Godfrey’s story: couple shopping, lost husband, jewellers with a pub next door. Future meetings- 23/04 breakfast at the Heron, as Sarah at the monument is away.- 30/04 evening meeting at the Heron. Final toast given by Sheila. Next meeting 9/04 7.30 for 8am at the Monument
