Thursday, 7 August 2025 Breakfast Meeting Apologies- Maureen, Reggie, Jean. Guests- Sheila Thompson, Bryan Baird, Hope for Tomerow. Grace provided by Paul. Hope for Tomorrow - Bryan gave an overview of his connection to the charity which provides mobile vehicles for the provision of cancer treatments to a number of areas across England. The charity was formed in 2007 by people associated with Formula One, launched by Sterling Moss who became the patron until his death in 2020. Gloria Hunniford took over the position. The EastKent unit is named Caron, after Gloria’s daughter. The charity has won many accolades, representatives including Bryan were hosted at an event for charities at Buckingham Palace last year. There are currently 10 units in operation across the country, with 2 reserve units. The charity build, maintain and service all the vehicles. The current unit is the second one locally, the first being in use for 10 years. The units provide a range of treatments deemed safe to provide away from a hospital setting. These include chemo and immunotherapy as well as blood tests and observations. The NHS provide staffing, including the driver, as well as the drugs and equipment, as well as fuel. In Folkestone and Dover the unit is parked in the Tesco’s car parks, the supermarket provide the electricity to power the unit. In Herne Bay it is at the Queen Victoria Mamorial hospital. The unit has a dedicated team of staff to ensure continuity of care for the patients. Local fundraising is essential to ensure the unit is available locally. The unit makes life easier for patients suffering cancer, reduces waiting time and eases travel and parking. 1 District Conference 25/10 weekend for anyone interested.
