Thursday, 31 July 2025 Breakfast meeting Apologies- Jean, Elaine, Pete, Reggie, Maggie. Guests- Ron Benning, Ronan Lennon, Diane Coupland, Sheila. Grace given by Paul. Ron gave a very interesting talk on Dowding, a career military man who worked his way up the ranks to being head of the airforce at the beginning of the Second World War. After refusing a number of requests for airforce activities, which may have changed the direction of the war in both France and North Africa, Dowding was sacked. Alfie’s Army Fund- Alfie and his parents will be joining us on 14/8. As Alfie is immunocompromised due to his ongoing treatment can members ensure they are fit and well if they come to the meeting. Young Lives vs Cancer, the charity Alfie’s Army Fund supports, is pleased to have a presence at our Golf Day. Shelterbox Award - We have received a bronze certificate for our donation of £2290 last year. Riverside Pantry- We received thanks for our donation of £500. The scheme will help 45 families with 125 children. Hope for Tomorrow- Bryan is joining us next week to give us an overview of the charity and its work locally. WTH gardening A date will be confirmed for bulb planting and a tidy up in the gardens at the hospital. This will be mid September. 1 Car parking- We will be providing cover until 7 pm on Saturday to cover parking for the carnival. Need to ensure people know the closing time if they are staying for the carnival. Treasurer- Subs all paid, thank you.- Golf day has all holes sponsored and only space for 2 more teams. International- Dave’s Rave is all in hand for 12/8. Membership- Sheila is keen to join the club, she has even filled in the forms! Humanitarian Services- Lesley will be liaising with Waterloo community centre to confirm a date for a cream tea.- Haven have let us know about the suspension of their services at present. This follows a major incident. They are looking to partner with an established charity to further their work. Greetings from other clubs- Spyros visited Whitstable rotary club to give a life talk, he brought greetings from them. Master at Arms- Various fines were awarded including: being someone’s b@#%h, forgetting to come, show off outsized veg, casing the joint and more.- Dave then regaled us with a ditty about a florally, fragrant Australian bum! Final toast given by Maureen Next meeting on 7/8 7.30 for 8am, Bryan will be speaking to us about the work of Hope for Tomorrow
