A delicious breakfast was enjoyed by all. Maxine introduced herself as the new ADG, stepping into Kevin’s shoes. She is secretary to Canterbury Rotary Club and offered help and support should we need any. Dave’s Rave - due to the rather inclement weather on the day it was agreed to cancel the event. David M, being a social media phobic didn’t get the message but spent a pleasant rainy session with two young ladies, one bikini clad, drinking wine and eating cake!- The date has been rescheduled to 12/8, 2.30 at beach hut no 154. Same menu. Although it’s the glorious 12th, no guns please, you’ll just have to throw stones at the seagulls! Gardening at WTH- A great job completed by all on Saturday. Proposed we do the gardening session 4 times a year to keep things under control and keep things looking good for the inpatients and visitors. Kathy’s Charities- Alfie’s Army Fund - Kathy and Lesley met with Andy Bills Alfie’s dad who described their journey and their involvement with Young Lives Vs Cancer. Andy will be joining us on 14/8 to explain about the work of the charity. They have a football shirt signed by the Spurs players they want auction - any ideas welcome on how we could support this. 1 - Revival - Kathy and Lesley then went on to meet with Debbie Haylett at the cafe. The aim of the cafe is to provide support for people with mental health, isolation and loneliness issues as well as supporting the more needy members of the population through groups, clubs and sessions. Debbie is joining us on 18/9 to tell us more. - Both these charities will have a presence at the Golf Day.- Hope for tomorrow - Bryan will be joining us on 7/8 to tell us about the mobile chemotherapy unit supported by the charity for local people. Diary dates 12/8 Board meeting cancelled 23/9 & 25/11 Board meetings 25/9 & 27/11 - evening meetings, with Kevin’s talk talk on Ukraine and David K’s daughters talk on her activities in Mongolia. Harbour day - All shifts are covered. Haven - Sue received an email from Haven explaining that following an incident at the venue Haven had to stop all services. The Trustees have agreed that Haven cannot open in its current format. The needs of the service users now present challenges they are no longer able to meet. They are actively seeking partnership with a respected organisation in order to carry forward their work. Until such time the charity is currently suspended.- They sent their thanks for our donations over the last year or more. Brenley Farm- Pat proposed we visit Brenley farm for a walk and talk and wine tasting session, interest was high so Pat will, probably in September, arrange this event. Approx £15 pp. Car Parking- 2/8 session is on carnival day. Godfrey and Paul informed us we had been asked if we wanted to cover until 7pm, however concern was raised that the carnival would not be past the school by then so could be an issue with cars being locked in. This will be clarified by talking to the caretaker. 2 Raffle - David M won cheese and pickles. Master at Arms- A wide variety of sins members were fined for included: getting lost, confusing people, bikinis on the beach, weather forecasting, golf holes and not car parking.- The boy stood on the burning deck poem was regaled in a comic version, having looked on line there are too many to find that which Dave gave us! Greetings were receive from Canterbury RC via Maxine and Kathy sent ours back to them. Final Toast was given by David K. Next meeting, with Ron’s final instalment and Q&As on the Dresden Bombing, is on 31/7 7.30 for 8am at the Monument PH.
