General Meeting

Thursday, 5 June 2025 Breaakfast meeting Apologies- David M, Hilary, Ian, Jean, Maureen, Marian, Robert, Trevor. Guests- Anne - for one last time- Sue Lynge Grace given by Paul. Fundraising- Car parking last week was a bit disappointing on numbers and Andrew complained that we didn’t sell his plants! Social- A great evening was had on Tuesday (Kathy apologised for not being there as she was up the Battersea power station chimney and then boogieing to Kyle!). Sue thanked Godfrey for his organisation and Pete for printing everything needed. Another one would be very welcome. Anne’s Induction- Anne was sponsored by Fiona, highlighting her charity work, almost originating from Swalecliffe, and her great engagement with our club. Lesley read the Object of Rotary and Sue did the formalities of induction. Anne was heartily welcomed by all present. Waterloo Community Centre- Sue Lynge gave a potted history of the centre from Dorothy Cheadle’s first idea as a place for the over 60s to the present day as a centre for all.- The centre is open for everyone each morning, 20 volunteers run the charity with a board of governors. Children and dogs are welcome. The facilities can be rented for use by clubs or for events. Lots of clubs meet there regularly, children’s, knitting, etc. 1 - Preloved jigsaws and books are welcomed for resale, and there is also a small shop that provides some income. Sue thanked the club for the funding to enable screening on the roof of the conservatory at the centre.- Sue brought a range of information and pictures documenting the centre and whitstable’s history. Greetings from other clubs- Fiona brought a message from Penny Spiller, the incoming DG, building on the RIBI presidents message Unite for good and embrace growth. She encourages collaborative working in clubs, between clubs, and across district. Share best practice and engage, engage, engage. Have fun and enjoy.- Kathy brought a thank you message from Georgina on behalf of the League of Friends at the hospital for the work on the gardens. AOB- Lesley will be acting as Almoner next week as Pippa and Spiros will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary in Madeira � �- Marian is welcoming visitors, by appointment. Raffle won by Lesley, a bottle of wine from her daughter-in-law’s home land, Montenegro. Master at Arms Nick fined many people today for a wide variety of crimes: losing the quiz, premature evacuation, impressions of Manuel, Chopin or shoppin, phones and spinning around! Today is Hot air balloon and Sausage roll day. Noddy appeared for the first time. Cross fines included hesitation and queue jumping among others. Final toast was given by Sue. Next meeting on 12th June, .30 for 8am at the Plough.
