General Meeting

Thursday 16 January 2025 Breakfast meeting Present • Sue, Maggie, Pat, David M, Andrew B, Robert, Kathy, Lesley, Fiona, Andrew M, Elaine, Paul, Dave Pippa, Spyros. Guest • James Flanagan, Peter Old Lib Dem CCC Chestfield ward councillor Apologies • David K, Gerry, Godfrey, Hilary, Ian, Jean, Maureen, Marian, Nick, Pete, Reggie,Trevor. No birthdays this week Grace given by Paul. The sad and sudden news of Richard Rooney, son of Maureen and Ted, death was given by Sue and all sent sincere condolences to Maureen and Ted. Sue, Pippa and Spyros attended Gill Kingham’s requiem mass on Wednesday. Fiona will be standing in as Almoner while Pippa is away, please inform her of any member concerns. Treasurer’s report • Tankerton FC can meet the timescales for a district grant application so David will take this forward. Social • Whitstable Rotary’s Pig Race has been postponed. Community and Vocational • Whitstable Healthcare are hosting a quiz on 22/02, Club hopes to get a table together. • Kathy spent 3 hours at Macknade receiving Christmas trees for Pilgrims Hospices. Chestfield Councillor • James and Peter described the geography of their ward, roles and responsibilities of Canterbury City Council, where council tax goes, potential impact of devolution. • The councillors work closely with Chestfield parish council and the friends of Churc street Playing Field. • Covered a number of local issues including: the SEN school, flooding under the A299 and the annual parking review, littering and fly tipping, Speedwatch, potholes and th Local Plan. • There were lots of members wanting to ask questions but sadly there wasn’t time!
