Evening General Meeting with Speaker

Thursday 21 November 2024 Evening meeting Present - Andrew B, Andrew M, David M, David K, Elaine, Fiona, Godfrey, Ian, Kathy, Maggie, Pat, Pete, Reggie, Robert, Sue. Guests • Alex McGloughlin, Kevin Fielding, Pat Brealy, Robert Stephens Apologies • David C, Gerry, Hilary, Jean, Lesley, Maureen, Marian, Nick,Pippa, Spiros, Paul, Trevor. No birthdays this week. Grace said by Sue. A delicious stew or meat free option was enjoyed followed by dessert. Presentation by Alec McGloughlin, former Met firearms officer trainer. • Previous Member of tactical support group dealing with riots, public disorder, violent assaults with a weapon, etc. • Left military service and joined police, holding a variety of roles. Applied to join the TSG in the Met. The Met is the only force in UK with a dedicated TSG in place 24/7. • Presentation covered numbers and types of incidents, training, kit, risk assessment and management. • 14 people shot by a PC in last 12 years, 0.0005% chance of someone being shot by the police in an incident. • Operations are highly managed and planned to ensure least amount of people, the public, the perpetrator and the police, are put at risk. 1 • All decision making and actions are video and audio recorded from the briefin room to the incident and afterwards. National risk assessment is utilised. Fundraising • Craft afternoon is well in hand, anyone assisting asked to arrive between12 and 1pm. • Car parking 1st December needs more volunteers. Social • Ales and antiques Natter and a platter on 27th November a small select group are going. Community • Sue asked Robert to seek a date for Stuart Neame to join a meeting to further discuss the community garden project. AOB • Rotarians were asked to submit questions for James Flanagan prior to his attendance to ensure adequate answers where possible. Greetings from other clubs • Kevin brought greetings from Whitstable rotary and District. Whitstable rotary has a presentation on the Fire service in Ukraine on 10/12. Also a talk on modern slavery on 28 January 25. Final toast given by Sue. Next meeting • 28/11 SGM breakfast meeting 7.30 for 8am
