Apologies:           Andrew M, Chris, David K, Hilary, Jean, Marian, Pete, Sue, Trevor, David B.

Guest:                  Sam, Community Champion @ Tesco

Welcomes:         Ian was in the chair.  He welcomed everyone to the meeting this morning, including our guest, Sam from Tesco.  There were no birthdays this week.

Grace:                   Said by Paul

BREAKFAST

Business:

Social:  The fish & chip supper next Thursday evening is cancelled; Mel has another large booking.  Everyone note:  next Thursday will be a breakfast meeting instead.

Can we find out how much the Bat & Trap evening will cost?

Fund Raising:  The result from last week end's car parking was outstanding:  £788 from car parking, plus £47 on the stall.

Godfrey reminded everyone that a couple more volunteers are need for the Golf Day at the beginning of September, for meet & greet duty, and selling raffle tickets.  We still need some more, good, raffle prizes.

Comm / Voc:  Kathy has met with representatives from the Pilgrims Hospice.  Has volunteered our services to help with events.  A similar offer has been made to Louisa from Kent Carers, but all they will want from us is a donation.  Kathy added that she and Kevin marshalled at the Herne Bay carnival on Saturday.  She was not impressed with Canterbury CC who had insisted that the children's pavement drawings be washed away as soon as the event ended.

Youth Opportunities:  Margaret is aware of the new District appointee, Steve Hanks.  However it will be a while before he gets a handle on things, so it's unlikely anything much will happen before next year.

Membership:  Margaret reminded the club that the Ploughfest is fast approaching - Bank Holiday Monday.  If we are having a stall, with Splat the Rat, we need volunteers.

Any Other Business:

Margaret has the details of a potential speaker to pas on to Chris.  This is about Hope For Tomorrow, a charity who support a mobile cancer treatment lorry which takes treatment to outlying areas and villages, rather than patients having to travel to a central clinic and then wait in a queue.

Kathy said that Whitstable Rotary are planning a boxing evening for March next year.

Pippa reported back that Chris has suffered a sudden bereavement.  David B is going downhill; Anne sends thanks to members who have offered transport.  David K has been in touch to say he is sorry that circumstances at home mean he can't normally attend meetings; he sends his regards to all.

Dave C reported a mesage from John Dunkley about the District Conference 18th to 20th October @ Eastbourne.  If you want to take advantage of the 'early bird' booking rate, you have until 31st August to do so.

Raffle:                   Won  by Spyros

Master-at-Arms:              After fining all and sundry, Nick informed us that this week is Elvis Week.  Today is also Jim Dale's 89th birthday, and the anniversary of the premiere of The Wizard of OZ in 1939.

Final Toast:         Proposed by Godfrey

Next Meeting:

07.30am for 08.00am Thursday 22nd August @ The Plough

NB:  This replaces the evening meeting on the same date
