BREAKFAST
Business:
Fund Raising: The most recent Car Parking did well despite being on a Thursday and he weather not being good. Paul said it was wet when he took over, so he had to use his wife's hairdryer at home to dry the bank notes. We made £398.47 parking, £15.00 on the stall, and £18.00 crocus sales - a total of £431.47. The next car parking is on Saturday 16th September.
The Fun Day on Monday 28th August was a bit of a disappointment. The event may not have been as well advertised as it might have been; there were less punters than expected. Also, our stall was positioned out of the way. It was a learning experience. We made £208.10. It doesn't seem that the event attracted any new members, which was also the point.
On the plus side Pete looked the part as Santa on his Summer holidays; he interacted well with the children. The winner of the cycling challenge achieved 335 metres in 30 seconds. There were 282 sweets in the jar; Gerry guessed nearest among our club members.
Gerry wondered if more of our display effort should have gone to recruiting new members. There was a brief discussion about the difficulty of recruiting younger members who are busy with raising children.
Golf Day is on 8th September. Godfrey said we urgently need more raffle prizes. Can each member come up with a prize, even if only a bottle of wine? Since we aren't meeting the day before, you can drop them off early at the Golf club on Friday.
Spyros said he has noticed that the Chestfield Sainsbury is once again allowing groups to hold charity collections, so we ought to get in there. Margaret pointed out that it is only 18 weeks to Christmas.
Social: Pat reminded members that the next social event will be a table tennis evening at Chestfield Warriors (behind Tesco) on 22nd September. There is a sheet in the folder.
Meetings: Pat reminded members present that there will be no breakfast meeting next Thursday morning (7th September). Instead it will be for committee chairs to arrange a meeting of their committee at a suitable time and place. Andrew B said the International committee will meet at his house at 18.30 on Wednesday 6th September. Pat asked committee chairs to be prepared to report back to the Board Meeting, which will be at 19.00 on Tuesday 12th September, here at The Plough. Someone will be needed to take notes; Dave C can't attend as he has a uke gig.
Any Other Business: Pippa said that Marian is still having trouble with her legs being swollen; antibiotics haven't helped.
Pat said that last Monday, Mel at The Plough ran a 'Ploughfest' all day which raised £1K to give to the Pilgrim Hospice.
Raffle: Godfrey won, but gave it back as a raffle prize.
Master-at-Arms: Godfrey officiated in Nick's absence.
Final Toast: Andrew B
