BREAKFAST
Business: Pat reminded board members that the next meeting is from 18.30pm on Tuesday 10th January at Godfrey's house. Godfrey is not well at the moment, so this might have to change. Pat will let us know. As previously advised, Mel from the Plough and Sharon from Red Zebra will be joining us on 19th January. Members are also reminded about the guest breakfast on 9th February.
Pat said there has not been a lot of response to the Safari Supper which was originally scheduled for 18th February, so this has been postponed until the warmer weather in May or June.
International: Andrew B had nothing new to report. He did recommend to members a documentary about the war in Ukraine which was on BBC 2 last night. He and Robert have been in touch with Apeldoorn.
Comm / Voc: Margaret is waiting to hear the date for the next round of the Young Chef competition.
Pat referred to the need for someone from among the membership to come forward and volunteer to be Vice President for next year. There is a glimmer of hope; Sue is considering that she and Gerri might do it jointly. Pat said that she has been given a voucher for an aerobatic flight; she may turn this into an opportunity for sponsorship.
Social: Sue said the new A La Turk restaurant in Whitstable is now open. Some friends have recommended it.
Fund Raising: Paul said he needed one more volunteer for Sunday's car parking. He will send an email with the final list to those volunteering. The dates for car parking in the first half of 2023 will be:
· Sunday 8th January
· Sunday 5th February
· Saturday 4th March
· Sunday 9th April
· Sunday 18th June
· Saturday 22nd July
Greetings from Other Clubs: Spyros said he has been in touch with a rotary member - Netsel from Saffron Walden.
Any Other Business: David M said that we have received a donation of £500 from Tapton Capital (Gerri's son's business) for use in local projects. We have therefore made a donation of £350 to the family whose daughter needs a prosthetic ear. Extra funds may be available to the family from District.
Master-at-Arms: Nick said that this month was, depending on your preferences, 'Dry January' or 'Ginuary'. On this day in 1709 the European-wide Great Frost began. People at the time blamed it all on flatulent horses.
Final Toast: Pat
