BREAKFAST
Social: Pat asked for confirmation about some upcoming events. Dave C confirmed that the Tea by the Sea will go ahead on from 14.00pm on Wednesday 14th September at his Beach Hut (no. 154, painted British Racing Green, near the Angling club building on Herne Bay’s West beach). You don’t need to book, it’s an informal event, but it would be helpful to have a rough idea how many cakes Dave needs to get in.
The evening visit to Wildwood on 6th October is on track.
Godfrey will put a sheet in the events folder about the Adventure Golf at Quex Park. There isn’t a date yet, it’s just to gauge how many members might attend. It will be a late afternoon, probably in the second half of September.
Fund Raising: Nick said that everything for Race Nighthas been sold, ie races and horses. Could still do with more tickets being sold ‘though.
The car parking on Tuesday did well. £518 raised by parking, plus £33 on the stall.
TheGolf Day is on track, but could do with more helpers and raffle prizes.
International: Andrew B announced that as chair of the International committee he has organised a committee meeting! Other committee chairs please note. The meeting will include a barbecue from 18.00pm on Tuesday 30th August, and all club members are welcome (but please tell him you are coming).
The District grant for Ismail university, Ukraine, is now in our account. Andrew said he needs to ensure a secure route for transferring the money before forwarding it to Ismail. Andrew promised more on international matters after his committee has met.
Community: The gardening at the Whit & Tank at the week end went well. There will probably be a need for another one in about October for winter planting, and also for cutting back the front garden area. There was a brief discussion about the relative merits of Lavender versus Pelargoniums. In response to a discussion about whether or not Andrew B could legitimately appeal for more ‘manpower’ Andrew insisted that he believes in the equality of the sexes!
Spyros thanked members who donated a total of 37 pairs of glasses to his recent appeal. Spyros was later criticised for making a spectacle of himself.
Greetings for Other Clubs: Spyros met a Rotarian from Redbridge while car parking. Dave C met a Rotarian from Leicester at the week end at an open-air Shakespeare play at Stamford.
AoB: Next week will be Godfrey’s life story.
David M said that he has had a letter from Sainsbury thanking us for our donations through the card scheme. He reminded members of the advantage of taking part in this.
Raffle: won by Andrew M.
Master-at-Arms: Nick told us that this is International Flirting Week. Today is the anniversary of the death of Jackson Pollock, tomorrow is World Elephant Day.
Final Toast: Kathryn.
