BREAKFAST
Club Business: Lesley said she and Margaret have visited SNAAP who have said thanks for our donation of £1500. Lesley also thanked those members who have brought in donations of Items for Haven this morning.
Andrew B said that Board this week discussed the proposal to host another Global Scholar. Would the club agree to host another? This was agreed with no dissenters.
Regarding David K’s project of support for the university in Odessa, Lesley contacted our AG who has confirmed that District will make funds available directly. All that remains for us is for David M to complete a form District have sent.
Life Talk by Andrew B: Andrew prefaced his story by remarking that when the club first formed it was more or less mandatory for members to do a Life Talk. There was one nearly every month. Andrew then gave his talk, including the fact that one of his business initiatives on the farm was marketing daffodils – which is why, when it started, the club adopted a daffodil on the regalia.
Any Other Business: Dave C said that the club has received an invitation to drop in on the 60thbirthday celebrations of the Over-60’s Club in Waterloo Road, Whitstable. This will be from 10.00am until 4.00pm on Thursday 30th June (same day as the Handover Meeting). There will be music from the 1st Whitstable Scout band, Dave C’s Ukulele Band, and more importantly cream teas.
Pat said that she is looking into a different venue for the Handover Meeting; the Plough can’t accommodate us.
Andrew M urged members to read the latest Rotary magazine; there are some good articles, including about homelessness.
Birthdays: Lesley said a happy birthday coming up for Godfrey.
Greetings from Other Clubs: Our members met with members from Whitstable at the Crescent Turner last week.
Raffle: This was won by Chris.
Master-at-Arms: Nick said that today appropriately, given Andrew B’s presentation, is World Farm Workers Day, as well as World Yarn Bombing Day (this is where people knit things to put on top of post boxes etc). Saturday will be World Gin Day.
Final Toast: By Lesley
