Thursday, May 12th – David Mann – Life Story

Breakfast Meeting 07.30am Thursday 12th May @ The Plough

Business:
Congratulations: Lesley gave congratulations to Hilary who has been given the Freedom of the City of London.
Ukraine: Andrew explained the proposal by David K that the club make a donation to a university in Odessa which is accommodating some 200 refugees including women and children. The Ukraine government pays the upkeep of the carers but struggles to provide the refugees with food and necessities. The proposal is to divert £500 from Foundation towards this. David M confirmed that we have carried our due diligence and confirmed that the request is genuine. The donation was proposed by Margaret, and seconded by Hilary. It was then voted on by members present and agreed.

BREAKFAST
Life Talk: David M gave a talk about his life. Born in Surrey, he moved with his parents to Shropshire. While still at school he had a number of jobs, including boiling the beetroot for a grocer. David said he was not academic but has always had a keen interest in sport, including football and cricket. He has had a number of highly responsible jobs, including being director of manufacturing in factories making bespoke fitted kitchens.
Any Other Business:
Bhutan: Andrew B advised the club that we have had a report back from Sue Hills about the success of our donation to Bhutan. Dave C to circulate to members.
AGM: Dave C asked if all Committee Chairs can send him a brief report on the activities of their respective committee at least a week in advance of the AGM. He will circulate them and there will be no need for Chairs to speak to reports on the night.

Master-at-Arms: According to Nick, today is International Nurses Day. Also, it’s National Limerick Day; several members contributed limericks of varying probity. And finally, it is also World Cocktail Day.
