Birthdays
Pete on this day….
A very nice meal at The Monument, our thanks to them and
the friendly staff.
Sarah has asked that a page can be put in the book
showing badges that are available for Rotary
Kathy gave out Shoe Box leaflets and suggested that we
share value packs, and buy small treasures over a period of
time and to not overspend Dates for bringing them in will be
given later.

Pete’s Life Talk
Pete was born in Singapore on 24th September 1961
and lived there until 1963 , then his parents moved back to
England, they were then posted in N. Ireland where his
brother was born that same year.
Then came another move to Shoreham and in 1967 his
sister was born.
At Primary school he was known as a ‘Scaly Brat”,
which he later learned that the name stemmed from the fact
his dad was a Scale E pay scale…..
Another move, this time to Scotland, not a pleasant
move for Pete as the local children and families saw the
army family’s took housing from the locals.
Pete was very shy as a teenager, but at a school disco
he was introduced to a young lady called Wendy. ———
They were engaged in 1979 and married in 1981
Pete joined the RAF and was posted to Lincolshire and
in 1983 and 86 had 2 daughters. In 1987 they all moved to
Germany.
Pete travelled on the Herald of Enterprise only 4 days
before it capsized and 193 people were killed….
Concerns regarding the Irish problems and people
getting shot, they moved back to Brise Norton to discover
fences had been put round it because of the IRA.
Pete left the RAF in 1996 taking redundancy which
enabled him to train in teaching IT courses, and became a
Flight Simulator Technician, the job took him all round the
world.
Because of his love of roller coasters he spent his 40th
birthday at Alton Towers.
He and his family moved to Herne Bay in 2015 and
joined the rotary after being a neighbour of David Bowley.
Retired at the end of 2025.
And interesting piece of knowledge that no-one knew is
that he loves doing cross stitch and quizzes.
Thank you Pete for this talk about yours and Wendy’s life.
Final Toast given by Pat
Next Meeting is a morning meeting on 1st October at the
Monument
