Robert, Finlay and Emily all read out their tie-breaker answers to the members at the meeting. It must have been a daunting prospect presenting to us all, but all three did so with great confidence and aplomb. The three tie-breaker asnwers were:
Robert ...... "The main purpose of Rotary is to bring together business and professional leaders to serve their communities. It is a secular organisation open to all people regardless of race, colour, religion or gender. There are 34,282 clubs and over 1.2 million members worldwide. Their formation was in 1905, 109 years ago."
Finlay ...... "Rotary is a group of people who help in the community with fundraising and events like Highland Games children's races."
Emily ...... "Rotary is working together to help the community. It was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris, a Chicago attorney. Rotary's name comes from the practice of rotating meeting venues between members. On holiday, in Lagos, Portugal this year, we found a road called 'Avenida Paul Harris (fund. do Rotary International).' "
Interesting that all three managed to include 'Community' in their answer. Perhaps we are getting the message across.
