Summer 2023

A new President, AG Linda and a Dame Grand and that's just in July!

July was off to a great start with our annual President’s Changeover Jacobs Join at Brathay where members, guests and friends of the club enjoyed an excellent evening of laughter, chat and delicious food.  The following week we were delighted to welcome 4 members of Ythan Valley Rotary Club near to Aberdeen and AG Linda to the AGM and Club Assembly. The formalities were swiftly completed with excellent reports of our very successful year, despite reduced member numbers.

Our International causes in 22-23 raised a total sum of £9648.07 with the main contributions from our static bucket collections for disasters and the Big Easy Quiz held in April raising over £700. Once again, our grateful thanks to Lakeland Ltd and Hayes Garden Centre for allowing our collection buckets at their payment tills.

Our Community work during the Rotary year included a successful Silver Sunday afternoon tea held in February, the date deliberately chosen to offer entertainment in a quieter time of year for events, the Pink 5K walk was well supported raising valuable funds for Bowel Cancer UK and a street collection was held for RBL Poppy Appeal. Individual members continue to give their time and support to the Parish Centre and community interest groups.

An open evening at APC was very well attended by members and local residents excited to hear a talk and excellent presentation by Dame Grand Cross Sue Ion, covering her very distinguished career in the Nuclear Industry and her attendance at King Charles 111 Coronation at Westminster Abbey. Dame Grand Sue speaker’s donation was generously added to donations from those attending which resulted in £150.00 being sent to the Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue.

We now look forward to our President’s presentation on The Titanic  - the Unthinkable on Friday 18thAugust and our annual Pink5K which will be held in aid of St Mary’s Hospice on Sunday 24th September.
