RWBTRC President Ian and several Club members attended the Brighter Futures presentation at GWH this morning (25 January). A flash mob - the Swindon Rock Choir - started the proceedings followed by speeches from Roger Hill, Chair of the GWH NHS Trust; Dr Claire Hobbs, Head of Radiotherapy at Oxford NHS Trust; the MP for South Swindon, Robert Buckland; Rory Bremner the Entertainer who is Patron of Brighter Futures; and our Area Assistant Governor Howard Small.
All the speakers expressed huge thanks to all the individuals and organisations that had contributed to the fund and achieved the target £2.9 million. The area Rotary Clubs were singled out for especial mention having raised over a third of a million pounds, the last instalment of which had achieved the target figure.
Now the money is in place for the equipment; the NHS grant has been confirmed for the building; work has already started on preliminary groundworks; and the building is due to start later this year with completion after 18-24 months. It's been a long and rather winding road to get to this point but we can look back with pride on what we have achieved.
And it's not just the achievement of the Rotary Clubs - because we could not have raised the money without the continued commitment, support and generosity of the residents, friends and relations in all our local areas. So this is as much your success story as it is ours and we look forward to writing the next chapters together.
Thank You Everyone.
