Sunday 12th of May saw the Rotary Clubs of Royal Wootton Bassett unite to host their inaugural Youth Challenge. This ambitious venture aimed to encourage competition and friendly rivalry amongst local community youth groups and to provide a boost to their funding. Its development was driven by the recognition that such groups within our own communities require essential funding to continue to deliver a service to our young people. The event intentionally placed at the beginning of Carnival week is to become part of the annual Carnival programme in a further attempt to also encourage youth participation.
Held in the grounds of Royal Wootton Bassett Academy each team comprising of 6 members aged 10-14, competed in both mental and physical challenges. The scores were ranked at lunchtime when the participants and spectators enjoyed a BBQ lunch. Following this all teams went head-to-head in a grand decider with all to play for.
