Members of the club have been busy looking through cupboards trying to dig out old pairs of glasses and that’s just the start of the collection. We’ve partnered with Bletchley Lions Club and are collecting glasses to be put through their international recycling scheme. They work with the charity Unite for Sight to take glasses out to developing countries to help people see better. What’s great about the scheme is that it’s so easy to get involved and know you’re helping people who otherwise couldn’t access the glasses they need.
We are also really grateful to two opticians, Allders in Ampthill and in Leighton Buzzard, who have put up collection bins in their reception are, advertising that they can accept glasses no longer needed. In the first batch from the two, we collected 110 pairs and so in total we’ve just passed across 170 pairs to the Lions Club.
Having publicised what we’ve been up to on our Facebook site, we’ve also had members of the public tell us they’ll like to donate some and so we’ve been out and about collecting those.
The scheme can accept glasses in or out of their case, even broken pairs as well as contact lenses and even hearing aids. If you have any you’d like to donate, please get in touch
