About Our Club

We are the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale

We give our time to fund-raising in support of a wide variety of charities.

We give our time directly to supporting our local community.

We meet regularly over a meal to organise our efforts and share out the work. 

We have a wide variety of after dinner speakers, many of them representatives of charities and the local community. 

The charities we support are local, national and international as explained here. Some are supported by all Rotary clubs  - we are particularly proud for example of our contribution towards eradicating polio.

Other charities are local and individual to us.

Fundraising takes many forms :

Street and supermarket disaster collections       

Events - eg Duck Race, Folk Music Evening, Recycle Day, Choir Concerts, Christmas Lights Switch-On and Christmas Carol Singing        

Canvassing for sponsors to cover costs of our events - money and prizes

Running raffles associated with the above

We also give our time, and sometimes expertise, where it is more valuable than money.

We visit other clubs. They visit us.

The club has 26 members at present, with a wide range of professional backgrounds including

Medicine, IT, Social Care, Education, Engineering, Surveying, Accounting, Insurance, Police, Prisons and The Law.

Our interests are as varied as you might wish for, and we might be able to interest you in

Gardening, Dry Stone Walling, Art & Crafts, Keeping Animals, History, Nepal, Ships, Cooking, Wine Drinking, Reading, Singing, Music, Photography, Scouting, Travelling, Motor Cycling, Rallying, Golf, Rugby, Cricket, Sailing, Diving, Fly Fishing, Badminton, Cycling and Walking.
