We give our time to fund-raising in support of a wide variety of charities.
We give our time directly to supporting our local community.
We meet regularly over a meal to organise our efforts and share out the work.
We have a wide variety of after dinner speakers, many of them representatives of charities and the local community.
The charities we support are local, national and international as explained here. Some are supported by all Rotary clubs - we are particularly proud for example of our contribution towards eradicating polio.
Other charities are local and individual to us.
Fundraising takes many forms :
Street and supermarket collections
Events - eg Indian Evening, Ceilidh, Brass Band and Choir Concerts,
Sales - resale of CDs, cakes , preserves, etc
Canvassing for sponsors to cover costs of our events - money and Prizes
Running raffles associated with the above
Carol Singing
We also give our time, and sometimes expertise, where it is more valuable than money.
We visit other clubs. They visit us.
The club has 28 members at present, with a wide range of professional backgrounds including
Medicine, IT, Archaeology, Engineering, Architecture, Accounting, Oenophilia, Ship Design, Prisons and The Law.
Our interests are as varied as you might wish for, and we might be able to interest you in
Bee-keeping, Dry Stone Walling, the Golden Age of Steam Railways,
Keeping Chickens, Oenophilia, the Second World War, Music
Jazz, Nepal and British Aircraft.
(Please be assured : an exotic interest isn't a qualification for membership).
Lady members especially welcome.
