Thousands dead, injured, homeless.....no water, no food, roads gone, bridges gone.
The Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale is asking our local community to come together and help the people of Nepal following the devastating disaster that has affected families and communities across the country.
On Saturday 5 September, from 9am, our Rotary members and volunteers will be at Tesco Ilkley, collecting donations to provide urgently needed support to people whose lives have been turned upside down.
When disaster strikes, the impact can be immediate and overwhelming. Homes can be destroyed, communities cut off and families left without access to the basic things we so often take for granted — safe shelter, clean water, food, sanitation and essential supplies.
In the first days and weeks following a major emergency, getting practical help to people quickly can make an enormous difference.

This is where Rotary can help
Rotary is a worldwide organisation, with members working in communities across the globe. When disaster strikes, that international network enables Rotary to support humanitarian efforts and help get assistance to communities where it is most needed.
ShelterBox, Rotary’s global partner in disaster response, is working with partners in the region to understand the scale of the disaster, identify the number of people affected and assess what support communities need most. In 2015, ShelterBox worked with Rotary to deliver emergency shelter to almost 68 000 people in Nepal, following two powerful earthquakes.
Here in Ilkley and Wharfedale, we know from experience just how generous our community can be when others are facing desperate circumstances.
We are asking for that generosity once again.
If you’re visiting Tesco Ilkley on Saturday, please look out for our Rotary volunteers and give whatever you can.
It might be the loose change in your pocket. It might be the cost of a cup of coffee. You might be able to give £5, £10 or more.
