Members of the Club together with friends and partners, totalling fourteen in number, visited a local garden which is part of the National Gardens scheme. This was a private tour of a three acre garden arranged for us by the owner, Dawn Phillips, who is known to President, Helen Phillips, John Henderson and Avril Cobham.
The visit started with coffee and homemade cakes and biscuits then Dawn walked us around her hidden gem of a garden, showing us not only the lawn area with herbaceous borders but also an inviting swimming pool. We also saw some very interesting trees, including an Indian Bean Tree, and a Mulberry Tree with its fruit just ripening. There was eye-catching sculpture which included a wooden carved soldier and two owls keeping guard in the garden.
The well stocked vegetable garden had a watering system concealed by the surrounding hedge .
Following this fascinating visit, we adjourned to the recently refurbished Polecat for a light lunch and plenty of chatter!
