An event that started 21 years ago by the Marlow Rotary Clubs with just a handful of runners has now grown to its maximum capacity. Several local lead charities will benefit but the organisers will also allow groups raising over £50 to share in a £15,000 Charity Pool.
In 2024 a record total of £95,000 was raised and the target for this year is over £100,000. The lead charities are Scannappeal (focussing on new breast screening equipment in the Marlow area) and the Heart of Bucks Community Foundation (focussing on their Together Against Poverty appeal). In some areas of Bucks one-third of the children are living in poverty.
The unique Charity Pool was introduced in 2021 to incentivise teams to raise money for their own favourite charities and is set at £15,000 this year. The Charity Pool is sponsored by the Shanly Foundation, Softcat, Grundon Waste Management, Heart of Bucks and the Clare Foundation. All of this money goes to charities chosen by entrants and local charities are encouraged to enter a team. Last year a good number entered and some ended up with figures in excess of £4000 each.
The course will be a sea of red Santas on this fantastic fun day that will include teams from local businesses, schools, churches, charities, scout and guide groups, families, neighbourhoods and clubs – all running or walking for a great cause.
