This week's talk is a follow-on from the previous presentation by Tom Finn who is a physiotherapist involved in developing the Stroll virtual reality technology, which we saw demonstrated last month. He showed how it can be used to help people with Parkinsons and other mobility issues.
Tom's previous talk was riveting. His team from Stroll explained and demonstrated how their software, incorporated into augmented reality headsets, is used to relieve symptoms of Parkinsons, and other neurological illnesses, by providing visual clues to help patients train and exercise to become more active and mobile, under the supervision of physiotherapists.
Karen from Horizon Rehabilitation Ltd, a specialist physiotherapy clinic based in Marlow Sports Club, gave a really informative presentation on facing and dealing with the physiological and psychological challenges of aging. She dealt charmingly (and robustly!) with the inevitable banter from those (many) aging Rotarians in the audience who claimed experience on the subject, and in fact we all came away feeling encouraged that the challenges of maintaining physical, social and mental health can be dealt with successfully as we age.
