The 1st photograph (below) is of Gwen who is the owner of the Local Spar in Tongwynlais and one of her staff members. Gwen and her staff stayed open right through lockdown and helped the vulnerable members of our community by taking their orders over the phone and either delivering or arranging for the groceries to be picked up by a neighbour.
Gwen was delighted to be recognised by Cardiff Breakfast and has displayed our certificate at the entrance to the shop. She was also very pleased to receive our Rotary Distance Aware badges for all members of her staff because as restrictions are being lifted she is concerned that social distancing is now being ignored and believes they will be a great help.
The 2nd photograph is of the Pharmacist and staff at Tongwynlais Chemist. Just like Spar, the Chemist stayed open through lockdown and were a tremendous support to the community. They gave advice on how to deal with the Covid pandemic plus delivered medication and prescriptions to those in need in the village.
They were also delighted to be received our Thank You certificate and it is displayed on their front door. The staff were also very grateful to each receive a distance aware badge.
The 3rd photograph is of The Gateway of India which was established in Rhiwbina in 1995 when Moslaur, the proprietor, introduced his 'heat and eat' concept of the 'traditional takeaway' experience. During the pandemic his skilled team at the Gateway of India has provided an excellent service not only to the community of Rhiwbina but to the whole of Cardiff by providing very high quality fresh authentic Indian Food.
He was honoured to receive recognition from the Rotary Club and feels blessed to be living and working in Rhiwbina with his family.
The last photograph is of the Co-op in Cyncoed which has stayed open throughout lockdown and served customers with care and consideration. The Deputy Manager Mark was pleased to receive the Certificate on behalf of the staff.
