Club Environmental Sustainability Policy

Policy

• Comply with current environmental legislation
• Appoint an Environment Officer Green Champion
• Integrate ES into club decisions and activities / projects
• Promote awareness and education of ES in schools and the community
• Encourage club members and their families to foster ES principles
• Increase environmental projects either as standalone or part of other projects
• Promote environmental sustainability at every opportunity

Action Plan

• Encourage as much use of telephone / video conferencing as possible
• Encourage all members to commit to the sustainable development philosophy
• Give talks to local schools get them involved
• Speak to local politicians - tell them what the club is doing - get them involved
• Avoid single use plastic, e.g. bottles and bags, and coffee cups
• Reduce energy consumption. Reduce carbon footprint
• Minimise waste by reduction, re-use and recycling methods
• Reduce fuel consumption, e.g. use a bike, public or shared transport, drive

slower

• Travel responsibly: "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints"
• Consider ES in purchasing decisions, e.g. buy local food
• Reduce wastage of water and other natural resources
• Use renewable energy and rechargeable batteries
• Minimise ecological footprint / reduce environmental impact
• Reduce pollution and emissions, e.g. from cars, planes, smoking
• Protect and conserve the local environment and biodiversity
• Calculate your carbon footprint - identify ways of reducing it
• Plant trees .
