Q&A Format

Youth Speaks

The photo above is from the Youth Speaks competition at Daventry Hill School on Friday morning.  Trevor and I had set up this event with our school contact Stacey Drake.  Trevor liaised with the school around the format of the competition and the marking of the presentations, however during the competition we had to be fairly flexible with the scoring to suit the events on the day.  Two teams of young people took part, and their themes were 'Should Celebrities Be Made To Give To Charity' and 'Is Prison Life Too Easy'. The student teams argued for and against their subjects, demonstrating considerable research with the facts and figures they presented.  Speaking in public is daunting for many adults, and for these students to present and answer our questions was a major achievement for them all, and a credit to the teaching staff.

Thanks to Trevor, Nigel and Bob for acting as quiz masters and judges. Neil presented the winners certificates (Prison Life) and also certificates to all the students who took part. It was a close run thing, and in the end I increased the prize money a little so that all the young people involved in the competition could go out for a cinema trip.
