August 2024 - In Conversation with our Immediate Past President Anne Ash

Q. Your Presidential year has just ended. What was the highlight for you?

A. The whole year has been a highlight and I can’t specify one particular event.

Q. You’ve been Secretary and President and now lead on Youth. What are your plans for the current year?

A. To continue the great work by the previous Youth lead – Young Writers, Tech Tournament, Young Chef, and to get more involved with the local schools. Try to involve more members with Youth.

Q. Where do you see your Rotary career going after this year?

A. Continue to be a pro-active member of the Club by supporting all the charities the club is involved in. I don’t think of Rotary as being an employer, therefore I don’t see myself with a career in Rotary at present due to the fact that I only retired in August 2023 and have had enough of career ambitions and pressure of targets etc. etc.

Q. What do you like about Rotary?

A. The comradeship, Service above self, supporting each other.

Q. What do you see as the challenges ahead for your club and for Rotary?

A. The major challenge is to keep Rotary alive and keep encouraging new members from the wider younger community within our areas.

Q. What do you see as your biggest achievement to date in Rotary?

A. Being President.

Q. What occupies your time when not involved in Rotary?

A. I like knitting, reading, walking with my husband, taking holidays & looking after grandchildren. I am also a volunteer with the Wensleydale Railway, and Secretary, Trustee and a  volunteer with Hambleton Foodshare.

Q. If you could invite anyone past or present to dinner, who would that be?

A. George Michael, to find out why he was so troubled during his lifetime and learn more about him and his amazing songwriting skills.

Q. If you could change one thing in the world, what would that be?

A. End all wars and remove worldwide poverty.

Thank you
