The annual charity cheque presentation saw proceeds from another highly-successful Golf Day at Bedale Golf Club distributed to a number of local charities.
The main beneficiary was Breathing Space, a charity that assists those with physical and learning difficulties. They were represented by Ray Moores and Des Hill who were presented with a cheque for £1,250 representing half the proceeds from the Golf Day in June.
Five further charities were each presented with cheques for £250.
For a number of years members of the Club have accompanied Santa for a few nights in the run-up to Christmas as he checks out the Northallerton area. A house to house collection has raised valuable monies for local rotary charities.
The 2004 event collected over £650 for charity.
On 2nd January 2005 a joint collection by the Rotary Clubs of Northallerton and of Northallerton Mowbray raised monies to be used to provide Shelter boxes for the Boxing Day Tsunami victims.
The collection realised in excess of £3,300 for the appeal and the two Rotary Clubs increased that using existing funds to make a donation of £4,500. This purchased 9 Shelter Boxes for immediate delivery to the stricken areas. Each shelter box contains a tent and sleeping bags for 10 people together with crockery, cutlery and water purification equipment.
To celebrate the Centenary of Rotary two beech trees were planted on the Green to the north of Northallerton Parish Church, one signifying Northallerton Rotary Club, the other Northallerton Mowbray Rotary Club. A plaque and the trees were dedicated on 23rd February 2005. Pictured are Kevin Hardisty and Carole Ford, President and President Elect of Northallerton Mowbray R.C., Gordon Bulmer, President of Northallerton R.C., Tony Hall, Mayor of Northallerton, and Howard Smith, Vicar of Northallerton.
The Club hosted the North Group Games Night at Northallerton Cricket Club. Eight teams participated in a series of fun games including darts, boules, croquet and putting. The winners were Wensleydale Rotary Club. Besides a small cup, Wensleydale also won the honour of organising the 2006 event, which was how Northallerton Mowbray came to be this year's organisors (by winning in 2004!).
6 members of the Club joined rotarians from across Yorkshire and South Durham for the annual Rotary and Inner Wheel Kids Out Day at Flamingoland Theme Park and Zoo near Malton. Hundreds of children, many with learning difficulties, enjoyed a day of fun and adventure. The Club supported children from the local Young Carers group. Pictured here are Carole Ford, Kevin Hardisty and A.N.Other - no need to specify positions!
Club members staffed a stand at the North Yorkshire County Show where, in addition to advertising Rotary, they had a 'Wheel of Fortune' which raised well over £100 for Rotary charities. Also on show was a shelter box similar to the ones purchased by the Club and sent to Sri Lanka following the Boxing Day Tsunami.
A £2,000 defibrillator has been delivered to Bedale Leisure Centre after Northallerton Mowbray Rotary Club joined forces with the British Heart Foundation and Bedale Welfare Charity. The Rotary monies formed part of the proceeds from the 2004 Charity Golf Day at Bedale.
