This page will be updated during the year to include our projects and activities since the start of the new Rotary year on 1st July 2026
"Marrows and Murder" - A Fundraiser for Hambleton Foodshare - 13th September 2026
With assistance from the Allerton Players who provided the scenario for our Murder Mystery, we held a very successful and enjoyable afternoon tea event at the Forum. Everyone seemed to have a good time, but only about a quarter of those present actually identified the true culprit, such were the plethora of "red herrings" flying around in the plot. Thanks to Deb Hugill of the Players for writing this and the Players for taking on the characters. And we did not have to suffer herrings for tea! We were catered for expertly by Louise Bumby. We are still finalising the finances, but expect to make just under £900 on the day. So alongside a further £100 we had set aside for the Foodshare already, it looks like we will be able to help them with nearly £1000 in the current Rotary year.
Jaya and Muttu's Challenge Walk - September 2026
Two of our members have taken on the challenge of walking 100 miles during the month. This will be in aid of two causes. Firstly to raise money for one of the Club's chosen charities this yeasr - Dementia Forward, and secondly to be part of the wider fundraising we are doing in the Club to help with the relief efforts following the Nepal Flooding Disaster. If you would like to give to one or both of these causes please see the separate donation page for the Challenge, which can be found from our Homepage.
Nepal Disaster Appeal - September 2026
As our first emergency help for the Nepal Disaster we have sent £500 to Shelterbox to assist with their work in the disaster area. Other fundraising is underway including the Challenge Walk mentioned above.
Our Annual Trip to Kiplin Hall to see The Handlebards, this year in "As You Like It" - 15th August 2026
It has become a tradition that a group of members, partners and friends head off to Kiplin Hall each summer to catch the latest offering from The Handlebards. This touring theatre group travel from venue to venue on bikes, hence the name of the troupe, and one of the delights of their performances is always to see which part of the bike becomes a prop! Bike pump as sword anyone? This year the play was "As You Like It" - and everyone agreed that they did indeed. A great night out.
A Day at the Cricket - 29th July 2026
A tradition from years gone by was resurrected in a different form this year, as rather than going to Headingley to see a Test a party of us had an excellent day out at Clifton Cricket Club in York to watch Yorkshire soundly defeat Worcestershire in an entertaining One Day Cup match. We all agreed this was a lovely venue and worth repeating.
Annual Treasure Hunt in Swainby - 27th July 2026
We had good weather which is not always the case for our annual event, and an excellent treasure hunt with a mix of challenging word and picture clues, before we adjourned for a lovely meal at the Black Horse in the village. The winner's prize is the honour of setting the event the following year. The team that won "Not First This Time?" were hopeful they would get away with it - but to no avail! Thanks to the winning team from 2025 for setting an excellent event this year and making all the arrangeemnts
A visit to Northern Lavender in Asenby - 21st July
We had a joint meeting with the Thirsk Club, starting with a visit to the Lavender Farm in Asenby, where we had a walk round the fields and learnt all about the processes involved in farming organic lavender and the products produced. Then it was on the The Angel in Topcliffe to finish the evening with the Thirsk Club at their usual venue - a good meal and excellent fellowship rounded off an enjoyable evening.
Induction of the Incoming President and President- Elect - 29th June 2026
This year we held our Handover meeting on the last Monday of the old Rotary year. Our President for 2026-27 is Sandhya Nadgir, and our President - Elect is Elaine Harrison. We wish them all the best as they start their roles, and we look forward to an interesting and varied year ahead.
