Saplings planted at children's charity

Despite the rain, Rotarians from Crowthorne & Sandhurst got out their wellies in April to plant 45 saplings at Sebastian’s Action Trust, a charity that offers respite breaks, crisis breaks and day visits to very sick children and their families. 

The beech, horn beam and wild cherry saplings were planted in the grounds of The Bluebells, the UK’s only purpose-built facility to offer breaks exclusively to the families of seriously ill children from Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

The tree planting effort was in response to the worldwide Rotary challenge of changing the environment for the better by planting a tree for each member of Rotary by Earth Day on 22 April.  There are 1.2 million Rotarians globally, with more than 50 000 living in the UK.  

Over the past five years, the Rotary Club of Crowthorne & Sandhurst has undertaken significant fundraising for Sebastian’s Action Trust, which is opening a day centre called The Woodlands in Crowthorne later this year.
