District 1040 Treekly Group

Plant Trees Just For Walking!

The Challenge

·       Each Rotarian in District 1040 to commit to walking 1040 miles in this Rotary year. That’s about 3 miles a day or about 5,200 steps per day.

·       To download the Treekly app and link the walking to the app.

·       Invite family and friends to join in too.

Why Treekly

Treekly® is a free app that rewards you with trees for walking 5000 steps a day. You can fund mangrove reforestation, track your impact, and join a community of walkers and organisations.

Treekly encourages users to maintain a daily walking habit of at least 5,000 steps, rewarding consistent activity with the planting of mangrove trees in global reforestation projects. The app tracks steps using your phone’s pedometer or compatible fitness trackers and smartwatches, and users can sync with apps like Apple Health, Fitbit, or Google Fit.

In the free app each milestone, such as completing 5,000 steps over 20 days, earns a tree planted in your name.  If you wish you can subscribe and earn more trees for walking 5,000 steps over 7 days.

Treekly focuses on planting mangrove trees, which are highly effective at carbon sequestration, storing up to four times more carbon than tropical rainforests. Planting occurs in six global sites, including Madagascar, Brazil, Kenya, Mozambique, Indonesia, and Haiti. The app partners with organizations like the Eden Reforestation Project to ensure sustainable and verified tree planting, while also providing fair employment to local communities.

Users can participate individually or form groups with friends, family, or colleagues, creating a sense of collaborative achievement. Organizations and communities, such as Rotary clubs, have integrated Treekly to track collective steps and tree planting, aiming for large-scale environmental goals like planting millions of trees.

Beyond environmental contributions, Treekly promotes physical activity. Walking 5,000 steps daily can improve cardiovascular fitness, reduce stress, and enhance sleep quality. The app combines personal health benefits with global ecological impact, making everyday movement meaningful.

Treekly is more than a fitness tracker; it is a social and environmental platform that transforms daily walking into tangible climate action. By participating, users contribute to reforestation, support local communities, and improve their own health, all while helping combat climate change.

All Rotary clubs in Great Britain and Ireland are already listed in the app so it is easy to set up.  Furthermore, Rotary District 1040 will set up a community in the app so walkers can join that community too.  You can start right now.
