Visit to Berwick Wharf
Fifth Friday (Thursday 28th April 2022) saw Rotarian’s and guests from Shrewsbury Darwin Rotary visit Berwick Wharf. Rtn Jeremy Taylor is a volunteer who gives his time to help restore parts of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal and branches. Jeremy invited Rotarians and guests to take a tour of the canal by Berwick Tunnel to learn more about the history of the tunnel and work being done on behalf of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust.
The trust aims to protect, conserve, and improve the route of the Shrewsbury and Newport canals and branches for the benefit of the community and the environment, with the ultimate goal of restoring a continuous navigable waterway linking the 25 miles from Norbury Junction to Shrewsbury.
Rotarian’s and guests were surprised at the location having passed many times and not know the canal and the tunnel were there. Much fun was had on the tour giving rise to conversations and laughs at the Corbett Arms for meal after the tour.
