Whilst aimed at being just a fun evening, an element of competition was introduced with a complicated set of rules that only the organiser was supposed to understand. Unfortunately the other bowlers caught on too quickly.
The competition was over two games and the bowlers split into three teams, the Jets, the Sharks and the Stingrays. At the halfway stage the Stingrays held a narrow lead over the Jets. The Sharks were biding their time. Through inspired leadership from their Captain, Chris Duff, the Jets snatched the small but perfectly formed Trophy from the grasping hands of the Stingrays, to become worthy winners. The Sharks were still biding their time.
The attached photos show:-
1. The Jets winning team with their Captain, who also won ‘the gaudiest shirt of the night’ award.
2. The presentation of the much sought after trophy by Fred Mercer.
3. Had there been an award for style then Guest John Whittaker would be the clear winner. Style, elegance, poise. John had it all. However there is a question mark regarding whether he was actually bowling a ball or just posing for the camera. Either way, he looked good.
Finally, special mention should be made of another Guest, Eric Mercer, who managed to bowl three strikes in a row, not just once, but twice, in the same game! Almost a professional one might think, until you look back at his first game’s score where he came last out of 18! Nevertheless well done Eric.
