On Friday 24th March, on Red Nose Day, teams from eight local primary schools (Annick, Dreghorn, Elderbank, Glebe, Lawthorn, St John Ogilvie, St Mark’s and Woodlands) took part in the Rotary Primary School Quiz organised by Seagate Rotary Club.
This year’s competition was held at Glebe Primary School and in a closely fought contest Annick emerged as the winners by one point from Woodlands Primary in second place and St Mark’s finishing third. This was the third time in five years that Annick has won the competition.
The Quiz is aimed at Primary 7 pupils who compete in teams of four. There are ten rounds of questions covering General Knowledge and a variety of other topics.
Annick’s winning team of Cameron Thomson, Ross Booth, Jamie McCormack and Katrina Blackwood will now represent Irvine in the West of Scotland Rotary District Final to be held on Tuesday 23rd May at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall in Glasgow.
Eric Greig, Past President of Seagate Rotary, presenting the prizes, congratulated all the teams and said: “It was a great competition and every team performed really well. The youngsters have shown how talented and inquisitive young people they are and every school should be proud of their pupils.”. Seagate Rotary would also like to thank local store Sainsbury’s for their support to the event.
