Yorkits continues to keep girls in education by providing washable hygiene kits, while also boosting local economies by encouraging kit-making within communities. The newsletter highlights resilience, global partnerships, and the importance of donor support in sustaining and expanding this mission.

✨ Key Themes

  • Busy Summer & Growth: More volunteers, more kit requests, and increased donations have strengthened Yorkits’ work.
  • International Women’s Week 2026: York Minster workshop confirmed for Thursday, 5 March 2026, part of the theme “Weaving Women’s Stories.”
  • Donor Support: Loyal donors, schools, community groups, and companies have provided funds, fabrics, and equipment—enabling kit production and even new sewing machines.
  • Resilient Women: Inspiring stories like Ruth Atieno in Kenya, who rebuilt her business after setbacks and now trains young women.
  • Global Reach: Yorkits kits and templates are now in Kenya, Uganda, Angola, Gambia, Niger, Malawi, and beyond—supporting education, health, and women’s empowerment.
  • Local Organisation: Careful preparation for workshops, with detailed planning to ensure smooth production. Ongoing plea for IT and social media volunteers.
  • Upcoming Events: Craft stall at Tesco (Dec 10), York Minster Christmas Tree Festival, weekly workshops at Askham Bar, monthly workshops at Hartrigg Oaks, and participation in International Women’s Week.
  • Get Involved: Opportunities to volunteer, donate, distribute kits, or set up new groups. Shower curtains and flannelette sheets especially requested for kit-making.
