The afternoon of Friday 22nd November 2019, saw the Mayor & Mayoress of Sunderland officially unveil the community defibrillator (AED) located outside the Teal Farm Pub in Washington. This joint project was realised as a result of collaboration between the Teal Farm Residents' Association, Teal Farm Pub, Northumbrian Water, the Hellens Group and Rotary Washington Forge and was prompted following an incident earlier this year at the nearby Sainsbury's store.
The Mayor, local councillor David Snowdon, remarked how important that this potentially life-saving equipment is and that the people of Teal Farm will now have access to it 24 hours a day. Les Howard, Chair of the Residents Association thanked everyone involved and is now arranging for associated training in the use of the defibrillator and CPR.
Following the installation of this unit on Teal Farm, Rotary Washington Forge hopes that similar projects can be developed in other areas of the town. A great example of people working together for the benefit of their community.
