Ukraine Project
Brit Valley Rotary Club have recently completed a project with the Rotary Club of
Dnipro in Ukraine.
We developed a Friendship with this Club, to exchange ideas
about Rotary in our two countries, but this quickly blossomed into a joint project.
President Iryna wanted to fund cataract operations in Zaphorizzhia. After some
discussion, it was decided to attempt to raise money for 36 operations.
Here in England, John Clegg involved 5 other Clubs in District 1200 as well as Brit
Valley and Dnipro and another Charity (Global Sight Solutions). Money was raised in
several ways, including two Clubs donating profits from a Curry Night. District
1200 enabled several Clubs to obtain Grants and eventually, between us, sufficient
money was raised and sent to Ukraine to fund 37 operations. President Iryna and
her Team created two videos, to show each of the patients who were treated, which
had a profound effect.
We are considering another project in Ukraine which may involve more cataract
operations plus battery packs for mobile phones, as there are a lot of power cuts in
and around Dnipro.
