I'm delighted to share with you the Completion Report for Busaakala Namaswa borehole, funded by the Rotary Club of Brit Valley.
Interestingly, this borehole was originally constructed in 1987 by the local government with galvanised iron pipes, which rust in Uganda's volcanic waters. The borehole experienced frequent breakdowns and the rusted pipes were previously replaced with plastic pipes. The borehole still had breakdowns so the community tried to fix it themselves several months ago, but two of the plastic pipes broke in the process, leaving the borehole to be completely non-functional as the community could not afford to fix it.
With Brit Valley's donation, our team was able to visit the community, assess the borehole, and fully refurbish it, removing all plastic parts, and replacing them with the best quality stainless steel, all in just 2 weeks. Further, our social team worked to upgrade the community's latrines and provided Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) training to girls (and boys!) in the local school (I for one love that the boys are trained in MHM too, as it goes a long way to break the stigma around menstruation).
Thank you once again to the Rotary Club of Brit Valley for your generous donation, which has had a very positive impact on the lives of the 210 community members and the 869 pupils at the school.
