Rotary Foundation

Borderland Rotary is a firm supporter of The Rotary Foundation  to which regular contributions are made.  Since this is Rotary's own worldwide charity, most of the money is raised from Club members themselves.

From this there is also the campaign to eradicate Polio worldwide, now labelled Purple-4-Polio.

A monthly fun competition (or swindle!) is organised amongst members, who make a small donation to the Foundation in order to take part (compulsory!).

Each year the Rhydycroesau Pantomime Group focus their unique talents in the production of a pantomime 'like no other'!   Borderland is fortunate in being allowed access to the opening night, the proceeds being raised for Rotary Foundation.  We are most grateful to the pantomime group for their generosity.

In celebration of World Polio Day, Borderland Rotary with the help of young people from local schools and other volunteers have planted an additional 4,000 purple crocus this autumn.

Oswestry School students planted 1,000 on their school grounds.

Whittington Castle Preservation Trust planted 600 around Whittington Castle.

STAR Housing planted 1,200 on land they manage off Unicorn Road in Oswestry.

600 more purple crocus corms were given to two of our Rotakids clubs in local Primary Schools, The Meadows Primary School and Holy Trinity Primary School for their pupils to plant on their school grounds.

This years planting joins the previous 20,000 purple crocus planted in various locations around Oswestry over the last 5 years as part of Rotary's 'Purple for Polio' international programme.

Purple-4-Polio

 Oswestry School held an Inter House cross country fundraiser for our polio vaccination campaign and raised £741. This great effort provided vaccines for 11,115 children.

The Foundation Fun Evening raised £69.20 

From these and other events, substantial donations have been made to "Purple-4-Polio" - the Rotary International programme to eradicate polio worldwide. For over 30 years their success has been outstanding, and many others are now involved.  Borderland work with other Rotary Clubs and have planted many purple crocuses to mark the programme.

Paul Harris Fellowships

Paul Harris Fellowships are awarded as recognition for distinguished service and contributions.  They are one of the highest accolades that Rotary can bestow.  Borderland is delighted to record that Paul Harris Fellows make up a third of their number.
