The subject is complex and for that reason it's wise to have professional advice rather than take a DIY approach. The importance of acting without delay was emphasised. Don’t put it on hold until, for example, Christmas comes! The importance of having at least two trustees and ensuring that Lasting Powers of Attorney are in place was explained. There are two types of LPA available These are generally known as 'Health' and 'Wealth'! The merits of using Family Trusts alongside Trust Wills were explained so as to minimising tax liabilities and avoidable costs. The high cost of care was discussed and the approaches to prevent the tax man from taking more than is absolutely necessary The wide ranging steps that must be taken to avoid the estate falling foul of the Deprivation of Assets Regulations were enumerated. The talk was followed by members asking many detailed questions and an offer from the speaker to an hour’s free consultation. SH
