1st August 2024 Boules Evening  Alan Folwell

What a great evening of fun and fellowship, all courtesy of Stan and Shirley’s wonderful home and garden, the weather was perfect, the organisation with Alan F’s usual efficiency and effectiveness and a great turn out with only 5 Rotarian’s missing.  Sausage rolls with Mike W’s and Jim’s tasty onions were consumed with gusto downed with everyone’s BYO drinks.

The members were split into 4 groups of 5 and the last of 6 (there was some confusion as to whether the ‘Webmaster’ was present!) The groups played for several hours on Stan’s nicely manicured field (although there were complaints from David V about the ‘bumps’) to deliver 5 group winners: Mike W, Allen, Bill, Chris S and Denis (Past champion in the last two years).  The Grand final was then played adjacent to the members at their tables with only one boule each and worst shot each throw drops out. Denis and Allen had the final game and Denis threw his boule at the back of Allen’s (was this a deliberate ploy, as he’d had a lot of stick for winning his group, as well as being past champion??) So, Alan F presented the winner’s bottle prize and the runners up received a bag of Maltesers each.

President elect Steve L proposed the vote of thanks, thanking Stan and Shirley for hosting the event in their wonderful garden,                preparing the field, cooking the sausages and generally ensuring everyone was happy. Alan F was thanked for his immaculate                organisation and everyone else for turning up to make it a great, fun evening, then asking members to join him with a warm                round of applause.               AR
