September 1st 2022 ‘The TV Shows of the 1960’s’President Rob Gray

President Rob took us on a trip down Memory Lane, covering a range of Shows: Soaps, Crime, Comedy, Children’s to News and Drama.  He encouraged audience participation calling out the identity of the shows. These ranged from Coronation Street, Emergency Ward 10, Z Cars, The Likely Lads, The Avengers, Dr Who and Captain Pugwash which drew some suggestive comments from Adrian! A video of Blue Peter drew the most laughs with a young elephant causing total chaos after demonstrating its toilet functions.  Maigret featured on a couple of occasions, as inevitably with Rob there was a section on ‘guess the theme music’. There was also a section on celebrities doing adverts, which most of us felt put the modern adverts to shame, as they clearly showed which products they were promoting and executed in an entertaining manner. Covering Dusty Springfield promoting Mothers Pride bread, Ronnie Barker with Alpen suggesting we looked out for the next instalment, as it is a cereal (serial!?). Next Alf Garnet (Warren Mitchell and Una Stubs from ‘Death us do part’) putting across how good were Findus Fish Fingers!  Sandie Shaw promoting Lux soap rounded of with Bernard Miles putting over the virtues of ‘Mackeson’.

The members got enthusiastically involved with very few items remaining not being identified. Peter thanked Rob for stepping in at the last minute to provide us with some nostalgia & fond memories.            AR
