July 2022Melody Flyte provided our main entertainment at July's memory cafe with her performance of songs from the 60s.The majority of our members enjoyed singing along with her and many knew most of the words! Some of us were even tempted to dance! After tea we enjoyed a quiz and a game of "Stickies" with 2 prize winners!!.

August 2022 - Once again We have been invited to attend The Rushcliffe Dementia Action Network run by Gwynneth Owen, who was previously connected to the Social Prescribers team. This group consists of Memory Cafe leaders in our area, Health Officers, Dementia project leaders and various other agencies.

On Thursday 25th Maggie treated us to a presentation entitled OUR HOME with interesting pictures showing items we used in our homes in the 50s and 60s. When we saw Ewbanks, hand-held whisks, black and white TVs, knitting machines etc.there were many expressions of ‘Oh I had one of those’! We then looked at items that Maggie had borrowed from the library, including hair rollers, cameras, old coins, etc. which gave rise to much discussion amongst our attendees. After tea we enjoyed a video of old TV adverts followed by an enjoyable sing song.Thank you Maggie, it was a great afternoon

September 2022 - There was a great atmosphere at the Memory Cafe on Thursday 29th September. The number of attendees increased to 30 with four new couples attending.  Doug Downing was the presenter and the topic was CHANGE . He told us that there had been more changes in our lifetime than any other period in history. Doug focused mainly on money and there was a lot of discussion about the old coins put on each table and how we are moving towards a cashless society. The presentation was very well received. We ended the session with a Stickies games and singing. As always the sandwiches and cakes were delicious and were  really appreciated by the attendees. Many thanks are always due to a number of ladies who make the cakes each month.

October 2022 - The theme for October’s meeting was ‘Radio and TV’ and was expertly presented by Duncan and Mike. We were shown clips from old TV programmes such as Andy Pandy, William Tell, Crackerjack and many more. A good visit down black and white TV memory Lane!

After tea, which was a selection of sandwiches and delicious cakes made by Rotarians and their wives, Mike presented a quiz which gave us a chance to discuss old favourites from our radio and TV programmes. Denis was available this month, so he accompanied the lively sing a long with his usual piano-playing prowess!

Thanks again to everyone who helped to make the afternoon so enjoyable.
