Our Second Decade 2000 - 2009

Ten more Presidents lead Vale of Belvoir Club

2000 - 2001 Ian Torr was a founder member of our Club and as President completed the fund raising, started in Steve Lawes’ year, for a Minibus for Dove Hospice . This was presented to the Hospice at the end of Ian’s year. Ian had been Club Secretary from 1994 and went on to jointly arrange, with Newark Castle Rotary, a sponsored walk. Subsequently he has coordinated the annual “Poppy Day” collections with The British Legion.

2001 -2202 John Spence, a founder member of the club, and had been chairman of Vocational and International Committees. Indeed John served as International Chairman before and after his time as President. Prior to taking up the Presidency of our Club, John had, over several years, been responsible for our weekly programme (a job which is now part of the role of our Junior Vice-President). During that time he introduced the idea of “outside visits” taking us to the Parcel Force depot in Peterborough, the roof and cellars of Wollaton Hall, Cresswell Crags and Caves, British Gypsum Barrow Factory and Mine (to name just a few). Latterly John, as part of District International Committee was a leading light in the development of the Sand Dam Project and coordinated the funding across the whole of District.

2002 -2003
Gordon Marsh joined The Vale of Belvoir Rotary Club in 1994 and  has been Chairman of Vocational and Community Services Committees. After being President in 2002 -03 he has acted as Secretary for six years. Gordon has coordinated the Christmas Float for many years and his knowledge of the local villages is indispensable at this time of year.

2003 - 2004 Derek Collett had previously been a member of Bingham & District Rotary but applied to join us in 1992 as he wanted to be involved with an evening club. Prior to being President in 2013, Derek had been Assistant Secretary and Chair of our Community Services Committee. Derek was supportive to Dove Hospice in his Presidential Year and he remained a keen supporter in the years after. Derek was made an honorary member of our Club in 2016.

2004 - 2005 Gordon Oldham was our President for the Rotary year  and prior to taking up this role he had been Club Treasurer for three years.Gordon joined Rotary in 1997 and was heavily involved in the programme design for the Concerts with the National Youth Orchestra.

2005 - 2006 Stan Taylor was our President. He had been the chairman of our international committee and served as club treasurer.Stan organised a couple of “in garden” events and in 2015 he “loaned” his garden for a “Family Fun Day” to raise funds specifically for Rotary’s Charity to eradicate Polio.

2006 - 2007 Allen Richmond was a founder member of our Club and  President in the Rotary Year 2006 - 07. We went digital, in Allen’s year, with the first of many newsletters. These “went to print” for four years before they became redundant with the formation of our website (they can still be accessed by using the link at the end of this page). Allen was instrumental in establishing our work with Young Enterprise at both South Notts Academy and Toothill and forged a relationship with Toothill to offer our services for their Mock interviews. Allen was host President to a group of scholars from Norway and welcomed two new Rotarians into our Club (Mary Bridge-Collyns, and Jack Ferguson).

2007 -2008 David Valentine was President having joined us in 2001. Since being president he has been our International Chairman. We continued with our electronic newsletters many of which can still be accessed through the links at the end of this page.

2008 -2009 Harry Thompson was our Club President having joined us in 1997. He had been Club  Auditor, and chairman of both Youth and Foundation committees. Harry’s chosen charity for his Presidential Year was the Heart Foundation. He was also influential in the development and the re-design of our club website in 2014. We continued with the electronic newsletters in Harry's Year.

2009 - 2010 Doug Downing was our Club President He joined us as a member in 1996 and had been International Chairman from 1999 until 2002 and Assistant Treasurer 2005 - 2006. After his Presidential year he was Community Services Chairman for a couple of years. In Doug’s year we abandoned the electronic newsletter in favour of a new website, but below are the final 6 copies of the newsletter.
