25 April 2019Anaesthetist’s experience of war - Peter Bull RN Surgeon Commander

The Falklands war may have been 37 years ago but former Royal Navy Anaesthetist Peter Bull brought it all back in a fascinating insight into the campaign from the eyes of a medical practitioner.

The talk was both full of interesting facts but also his views and opinions on what went wrong. It was both candid and harrowing in parts.

He journeyed to the South Atlantic in the converted SS Uganda and when they set sail from Gibraltar, it was felt that the war would not happen. He told the story of the dangers he and his fellow crew faced as the conflict unfolded, insufficient resources, fresh water and blood supplies creating major issues. They treated and saved the lives of many, including the famous Simon Weston, often against the odds and the debt of gratitude to him and his colleagues is enormous.                                                                                                                                                                   IT
