25/06/26 – Club Handover and Pointless game – Alan Folwell

Again, our venue was at Long Acre Arts Centre in Bingham and Alan F had organised Fish, Chips and Mushy peas followed by Lidl Cornetto ice cream. Worked well, so thanks to Alan.

Following the meal, President Gail Inducted Pam Richmond from Friend of Rotary to a full active Rotarian; with Gerry Thompson reading the ‘object of Rotary’, followed by the presentation of the Rotary pin.  Pam circulated all the members who congratulated her and although she was well known to one and all she was most warmly welcomed. The formal handing over of the chain of office and badges, both Gail and President David gave their speeches and thanks. Jane’s successful Swimathon was discussed with plans to improve and promote it more next year. Jim Gostick was then awarded the Harry Thompson Trophy for his tireless, quiet activities in support of our Club. Alan F then talked about progress on our venue, with The Royal Oak at East Bridgford being trialled for 4 weeks, followed by the Lily of the Vale at Stathern a further 4 weeks.

Alan then proposed his ‘Pointless’ game, with 8 rounds and simple rules explained. He obviously held the official ‘Pointless’ answers to the questions he offered, but accepted that occasionally some answers offered were missing. The questions ranged from ‘Countries’ through which the River Nile ran; Top 40 hits by the Bangles; ‘Two word’ top Twenty Hits by The Beatles; Countries bordering Brazil, finally to ‘Carry on Film’ one-word titles.

The Winning team emerged as: President David, Steve C, PP Gail, Peter J, Duncan and Allen. The Prize of bags of Liquorice Allsorts were suitably distributed

President David gave the vote of thanks, saying how much he had enjoyed the Thrust and parry, plus the challenge to the memory. Thanking Alan F for all the time and effort put in preparation and his usual professional delivery. The members joined him in a warm round of applause to thank Alan.                    AR
