The Rotary Club of Astley has long enjoyed strong links with their sister club, Colombo Central, in Sri Lanka. Recently, Astley Rotarians were made aware of the desperate need that the Sri Lankans had at a Junior Cancer Hospital for supplies of Cannulas, that they could not source.
Following an intensive search by Astley Rotarian, Dr. Alistair Thompson, the required supplies were located in Coventry and duly collected by Gareth Lingard.
These were then passed through to Trevor Barton MBE and on to the club's Sri Lanka contact, who took them to Sri Lanka on his return home from Christmas Holiday. Part of the delivery was put to immediate life saving use in Sri Lanka.
Delighted with the efforts of Astley Rotarians, the Rotary Club of Colombo Central have sent a letter of thanks, 3 pottery mugs and an Ornate Silver Elephant in a Perspex display with a plaque commemorating the occasion, together with their new bannerette.
