The Annual individual junior championships for Cardiff and the Vale schoolchildren takes place at Cardiff City Council Offices in February. This event is now seen as one of the highlights of the chess calendar.
The Championships are supported by Cardiff Bay Rotary who provide the trophies for the prize-winners.
This year (2017) there was a special surprise to begin the prize-giving ceremony with the President of the Cardiff Bay Rotary awarding Hugh Price with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship. Hugh received the Fellowship certificate and a gold pin.
Over 140 children took part in the Championships with sections from Under 8 to Open. The Deputy Lord Mayor of Cardiff Councillor Georgina Phillips, together with her husband, presented the prizes to the winners.

more RotaKids is a Citizenship programme aimed at the Primary School age group. The objective is to introduce Rotary ideals to young people, as well as addressing citizenship, which is an important part of the school curriculum.
