SNCR Cheque Presentation

Rotary Becket has paid for the equipment needed for a responder to use during call-outs.  With the considerable assistance of our Rotary District 1070 (covering East Midlands) who provided a grant.  The cost was £2,000 which District contribute 50%.

At the cheque presentation, Martin told the meeting that the kit was:

"Exactly the same as an ambulance so the idea is that we get there first and we’re there to help stabilise the patient prior to the ambulance cruise turning up. It becomes really important when it is a critical incident so if it’s a cardiac arrest arrest which is what we were designed to cover and sadly cardiac arrests are increasing because of our age population also this is the UK.

"Despite having a lot more more defibrillators out there in the community.

"Out of hospital cardiac arrest very difficult to recover from especially if nothing is done.  So if it happens to somebody near you the best thing you can do once you’ve dial 999 and answer the critical question is a patient breathing "No" since you said that an alarm is triggered on the ambulance services dispatch algorithm and vehicles are sent straight away automatically when you’re still talking including us.   So you can still be talking on the phone and we’re coming through the door.

"The best thing you can do is some cardiac massage. You can do CPR and we’ve all done done it or you’ve seen it done even if you do it badly it’s better than nothing at all. You can’t do anything to make it worse so please get in and have a go but do you remember to call first?

"Thank you very much for this very very, very welcome thank you."
